Summer BFF's

Summer is nearly over.  Summer 2013 was a blast, with my sister coming home, my mom and me bonding at Boracay and not to forget cold sweet treats from Jellybelly.

The scorching sun would have burnt me toast if not for my two BFF’s.  As rain signals the end of summer, suffice to say I can now give an honest to goodness review on the sunscreen I have used.  Two products that I have used all summer long.

Presenting Neutrogena Age Shield Face and Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunscreen

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunscreen has broad spectrum SPF 45, protection against skin aging UVA and burning UVB rays.  It has a lightweight clean feel and fast absorbing.  At first it feels sticky like most sunscreens, but after it is absorbed by the skin the sticky feeling is gone.  It has a pleasant faint powdery-sort of scent.  Helped in preventing sunburn.  I used this when we went to the beach and also when I go out of the house.

Neutrogena Age Shield Face, oil free lotion broad spectrum SPF 110.  I have had issues with putting sun blocks on my face before.  When I put on sun block, I would get breakouts and bumps on my face, but not with this one.  Since it’s oil-free, it did not break me out.  It gets easily absorbed and no sticky feeling and it also has the pleasant, faint powdery scent.  I am now using this everyday.

I really love summer as summer reminds me of beaches and vacations, but we’re really blessed to have summer almost year-round since our seasons just happens to be just wet or dry.

Max’s Halo Halo

I have been feeling the heat and humidity lately and had been craving for something to cool me down.  So off we went to Max’s.  Max’s is known for their fried chicken.  As with halo-halo, this is their bestseller dessert.  I don’t want to compare this with Razon’s (which is also yummy by the way) as I like them both.

From Max’s website:  Perfect for cooling down, our Halo-halo Special is a delightful mix of Filipino sweets & rice crispies. This is made more creamy with a scoop of ice cream on top!

A puuurrrfect treat for a hot day!

Aklan Side Trip 3 and Going Home

To cap off our trip, we went to my mom friend's house in Aklan.  The family was very nice and warm to us, even if we barely knew them.  They were very gracious and we can't thank them enough for their hospitality.

They served us a feast of seafood, native chicken and red rice.

We also had a chance to visit Aklan church.

Tasted La Paz batchoy (so good! This was at Nia's Bamboo Cuisine, in front of Kalibo Airport).

At Kalibo Airport - until our next Boracay trip!

Aklan Side Trip 2: Christmas Cottage

Christmas Cottage houses the Precious Moments doll and figurines.  The displays though were kinda old and the cottage smelled musty.  I do hope they do something about it.  Nonetheless, I still love it as it adds character and value especially to the figurines (which by the way are expensive).

The Cottage, sorry for my silly pose (i was hot and cranky)

And another

Okay, I hope i didn't overload you with much cuteness.

P.s. Jellybelly and I were supposed to have a Precious Moments themed wedding, but decided to ditch the idea because the figurines were so expensive.  I was also too lazy to do Precious Moments crossstich.  We could do this may be on our 10th year? Who knows right. :)

Aklan Side Trip 1: Sampaguita Gardens

After our Boracay trip, since my mom has an Aklanon friend, we had the chance to tour Aklan for a day.  He knows how much I love Precious Moments and so he took us to Sampaguita Gardens.

Aklan Sampaguita Gardens Resort, Inc. is the brainchild of Samuel John Butcher, an American artist and creator of Precious Moments artworks that promote messages of loving, caring and sharing. Mr. Butcher, who owns Precious Moments Park in Carthage, Missouri, put his plans into action in December 2001 and in June 2003, the resort began commercial operations.
The resort features Samuel J. Butcher mansion, guestrooms, convention center, pool, Christmas cottage and the Precious Moments Collectibles.

It was so hot, had to stay under the shade

By the time we went inside the mansion, I was feeling hot, hungry and cranky so I only took a few pics, the other pics I won't bother to post because I look irritated.

I do hope that they maintain the resort.  Some of their decors are already in need of a repaint/maintenance.  It was still fun, but the summer heat got us that is why it was only a short stay.
